QAL with Sew Happy Quilt Blocks 6 and 7
I was a little behind what with work deadlines - don't you just hate it when that pesky thing called work gets in the way of your sewing time?!
Finnaly I can update on the Sew.Happy.Quilt. QAL I joined at the first of the year.
Block 6 is an 8-patch block made up of HST (half square triangle) units, squares and triangles. I was happy with the way my color choices turned out but my block was slightly off size and I was not able to square it up as good as I wanted, but all in all it's a very pretty block.
Block 7 is a block made up of triangles - or flying geese blocks. I haven't really made many true traditional flying geese units and this was a fun block to play with. Some how this block reminds me so much of the Nederlands (Holland) and maybe just maybe its because this block's name in another form is 'Flying Dutchman'. :)
Here
are my blocks 1 thru 7 in all their glory. I need some advice please! The
Friendship Star block has a yellow print background and I am wondering (really
it is bothering me quite a bit as you can tell) if it is visually distracting?
This is not my choice of a layout, but still I think I may need to re-sew this
block with either white or pale yellow as the background. Please and thanks!!
It's funny about this quilt when I
first purchased the fabric I was excited and happy with my choices, then after
a few blocks I started to question these colors and prints. Now seeing them at
this point I am starting to really love the colors and prints again, it's just
funny ya know?!?!

Sew Happy Quilt ALong Blocks 3 and 4
Sew Happy Quilt ALong Blocks 3 and 4, a photo by labellacolori on Flickr.
I really love the way that block 4 turned out!!! I also love the white print fabric in that block, which might be why I am partial to that block over the others.
Jenna has done a fabulous job with her tutorials, these block were so easy and fast!! If you haven't started a quilt along before there is still lots of time to join in at Sew. Happy. Geek. I got home from a long day at work and grabbed a glass of wine and whist my hubby cooked dinner (yes I am a lucky girl) I went straight to the sewing room. By the time dinner was ready and on the table these pretties were sewn and pressed. One great tip that Jenna has and I always do is to heavily starch all fabrics before cutting to help keep the bias edges from warping and the point crisp. Go and check out all the other great blocks others are making at Sew. Happy. Quilt. Flikr Group.

New Year New Quilt Along!!!
Not long and we will be in the year of Two-thousand and Twelve!
I know its an old cliche "time goes by faster the older you get" but its soooo true!!!
Where did 2011 go??
So looking on to the 'Horizon' of 2012 and new projects, I came across Jenna
at Sew. Happy. Geek. and she is hosting a quilt-along for 2012, what fun!!
Does this look like a fresh fun start to the new year?!?!
Well, it does to me!!
I have picked out my fabrics, or at least the main players in this quilt...
Horizon Morning Tides by Free Spirit
(did you catch the pun/play on words earlier? yea, I know I'm a goof ball)
I love purple and yellow together, so cheerful!!
I will be adding in some solid kona cottons, maybe white, purple and yellow.
That is if I can find them locally?
What projects are you planning for the New Year?
