My New Fabric Shopping Cart

Yep, I took the plunge and bought a new car. The mileage is great 25 city/36 hwy. Although I am scared to death to park her in any public parking lot, when I actually go shopping may be up in the air for now. Funny thing the payments don't start until my birthday. This is the first nice new car I have ever owned - and at my age you would have thought I have owned many cars. Well no, my first car was a 10 year old Toyota Celica, and she was a great car!! By the way Toyota dosen't make them any more, they really should rethink that!! Then I owned a Suzuki Swift, not the greatest car on earth, but it got me where I needed to go. And now this baby. Ask my husband he thinks I am crazy - I won't park anywhere in Walmart's parking lot and I only want to drive on certain roads. That's just me, she sweet and she is mine.

I hope you had a good weekend - I washed and waxed the baby.

Brown Pants Simplicity 3884

Great group of items! Simplicity 3884 has a dress, top, jacket, pants, and shorts.
I used the pants to creat a 'Hollywood' elastic style waist pair of brown pants.

Now remember I am not a fashion model, yet an over-weight 30-something (well I might be fudging a little on the last one). Anyway here's the out come:

They are very comfy!! I added 1.5" to the top of the pants to use for folding over the 2" elastic. I did not add a zipper or sew the darts. I basically cut the pants in a size 18 (which correspond to the my largest measurement - hips)

The color is a deep chocolate brown. The photos are not how I feel in these pants (yep, that makes no sence but thats how the photos look to me) . SOOOOO - I guess I need to try and learn how and where to take photos so others can see what I see.
I did no other alterations other that the 1.5" at the top. I feel the crotch curve is a bit shy. I compaired the front and back and saw very little difference, there is a difference but not too much. All-in-all these pants fit me ok, but might fit someone with a flat derriere better. I have just received Hotpattern's Weekender Jean Jeanius Trouser Jeans. With all the talk about the 'L' crotch curve I can't wait to see how that fits.

Block Central's BOM 2008

If your a quilting fool like me, you have to see the new Block Central's BOM . I have gathered my stash and here's what I am going to start with :
Focus fabric: These are the pretty players:Here is a test in EQ5:

I am not one to follow the rules, and you can see my colors and fabric styles are very different than the original.

Soon I will have my pants finished from the chocolate brown roma ponte and will post my adventure with the pants pattern.

My new sack of goodies for some sewing fun

Here's what I walked away Jo-Ann's with: 3 yards of deep red ponte roma knit (top or tank and a cardigan), 5 yards for chocolate brown ponte roma knit (pants, tank, cardigan, and maybe a strait skirt), 3 yards of a light brown twill (long skirt from Simplicity 3796 ), 1 yard of home-deck in a black and white check along with a yard of insul-bright (both for a cool Chanel'esk lunch bag).

I wanted Burda 7818, long jean skirt - but it was out a Jo-Ann's so I may have to order it from Pattern Review. So as you see I settled on the easy drawstring waist of Simplicity in the light brown twill I purchased. Very different skirts, I think the Burda has a better flow at the hem line and the Simplicity you could use lighter fabrics in the summer.

Now here is a test I am going to try and if you want to let me know what you think - please do! I want to take the jacket pattern from Butterick 4980 and use a knit (this style is sooo IN now). Maybe in the ponte roma.
Happy sewing!!
